The service was better than most restaurants I have visited and no it isn't "the best" but it's pretty darn good. We've tried HuHot, a Thai place, another Indian restaurant in this town and actually
(out of Des Moines) this is probably the best place we have eaten. Basically, my husband and I will visit this restaurant again.
"Minneapolis, check out the place called "Bombay Bistro" in downtown or a place called "Chapatti" in Edina" That is not in Des Moines! I bet they have good Indian food in India, hopefully. Compare restaurants within a city. Thank you for the rec but a town's standards are a town's standards. Doesn't Minn have more people? Not to mention, more Diverse people?…
Good food reasonable price.
So, I visited Des Moines for some work and was searching for Indian food. I was really afraid to go here because of the bad reviews. But, the food is very nice. This place is run by Punjabi folks,
and the food tastes really great.
Also, buffet was the cheapest I have ever had, but that doesn't mean the quality was bad or anything. Do visit if you are in town.

This is absolutely one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been too..
I was just looking for India Star?s phone number to give a friend and I saw a review here that said their food was terrible. That prompted me to sit down and submit my own review.
I have been lucky enough to have traveled all of the world, including India, and with very rare exception India Star has some of the best Indian food I have ever had. In fact the Chicken Vindaloo (if you order it extremely hot) is the very best I have ever had anywhere in the World.
My vegetarian friends also rave about the excellent quality and taste of their food, so I can not understand how anyone could claim that this restaurant has terrible food. Quite the opposite from my experience. The best Indian food all around anywhere, period.
If I was to point out something that could improve, I would say that wait staff?s English skills could be better. But this is really nitpicking because at India Star you can get the best Indian food in world, right here in Des Moines, so what the problem?

Amazing quality. I'm not sure why others have had a terrible experience here, but I've been ten times or more and have been highly impressed each time! (It's possible that the other reviews are people representing OTHER Indian restaurants and are threatened by India Star's quality) I agree that their former location was a bit of a dive, but they're now located on Douglas Ave and have expanded and updated. If you're a person who judges a restaurant solely on ambience, Tandoor is the right choice. However, if you prefer to judge a restaurant on the quality of their FOOD, India Star is the appropriate choice. Their staff is nice, and prompt. In fact, my boyfriend mentioned he liked the music that was playing, and the next time we came in the chef had burned the CD for him!…
