We chose Baratta's to cater our wedding after having a wonderful experience taste-testing. We absolutely loved what we served our guests; however... we found out the hard way that this business has a VERY difficult time following a contract.
We chose to use Baratta's for our alcohol service in addition to food. We worked with Nick Speck to develop a contract that specifically stated when we would like to cap our liquor service and only continue to serve wine and beer. We then set a cap for the total amount we wanted to spend for the evening. On the evening of our wedding, Nick did not stop serving liquor until we were $100 short of our TOTAL ALLOTTED dollar amount, even though our contract said EXACTLY what dollar amount to stop at. Baratta's had continued to serve liquor $1800 past our limit!!!! This put us in a terrible position because we had reached our limit for the entire evening very early due to how expensive the liquor was. Had the liquor been stopped when it should have, I doubt we would have reached our total evening limit until much much later (beer and wine stretches much farther!). We were forced into increasing how much we would spend for the evening so we could continue to serve our guests. In the end we paid $2000 more than our contract had been written for. When we went to Baratta's to complain about this, Joe Gato blamed my husband and I for everything and accused us of trying to cheat them out of money. He said because we didn't come and tell them to stop serving liquor it was our fault they ran past the dollar amount written in the contract. So, whats the purpose of a contract then???
Yes, my husband and I wanted our money back, but more importantly we wanted an apology for not following what was written and signed for in our contract. Joe Gato would not apologize, saying they had done nothing wrong. When asked what the purpose of a contract was, he had nothing to say.
I cannot believe the way people choose to run their businesses. Joe Gato- you are a sorry, sorry excuse for a businessman. And Nick Speck, the same goes to you.
Great service, lousy food. Really very disappointing. Italian specialties were mediocre, bland and
poorly prepared, particularly the homemade raviloi that was too large, doughy, and tasteless. We drive
thru Des Moines regularly and always stop for dinner; not at Bratta's again, though.
Great Food!. My wife and our families first went to Baratta's for our wedding reception and every year we make it our place to go for our anniversary. Our two young children even love the food there. I've been to every Italian restaurant in town and no one compares to Baratta's.The wait staff are quick, personable and attentive. The chef's cook the best steak DeBurgo in town and I have lots of other favorites there such as their delicious seafood Genovese, calamari linguini, and their succulent pizza. If you're looking for great, normally expensive food for inexpensive price and people who honestly care that their customers are both satisfied and that they'll return then Baratta's is just what you're looking for!
Best Italian in Town!. Great food, Great Service, Incredible Deal. This cozy trattoria is one of the city's best kept secrets with filling meals, warm ambiance, & service with a smile. Baratta's is sure to quickly become one of your favorites. No matter where you are in town, it is definitely worth the drive.
