Disappointed :(. After reading seeing many advertisements for Tumea and Sons in the paper, we decided to try it out tonight... and were disappointed. The ambiance of the restaurant was very casual, not ideal for a date night. I ordered the chicken marsala, which was WAY too heavy on the mushrooms and did not have a traditional marsala sauce. It was more of a marsala broth. Pricing was very steep for what you receive. The service was raw and unprofessional. Would we return??? Probably not. There are other Italian restaurants in Des Moines with better quality food and well trained staff.

Best in DSM for Italian food!!!. I have known the cooks and some of the family since I was a kid busing tables at another italian great of the south side Nana Leone's Joe Joe and Mario were previously cooks there as well. The food and enviroment are fantastic you won't see any place like it outside of Chicago or New York. I have lived in several different places across the and this is the real deal. Great food, great conversation, and bocce ball. What the heck else are you looking for? I take all my friends and relatives from out of town there.

FAVORITE. Order the Chicken Asiago - it is absolutely divine! It's my favorite meal out of any restaurants I've been to in Des Moines. Everyone raves over the DeBurgo and Shrimp Scampi too. You are missing out if you've never been to Tumea & Sons.

To Bad. The service from our waitress was very good but the food is average and small portions for the money.Tip was added to the bill without asking if I wanted to leave one. The waitress would have gotten a larger tip if I were allowed to leave it on my own.

Great for the Family or a Date. Modest prices, great food, the best service I have had in years, nice wine list, and a wonderful atmosphere make this one of the best stops in Des Moines to eat. The owner spends evenings in the yard behind the restaurant playing Bocce and socializing with customers late into the evening. Stop in once and you will realize that you now have a new stop on the list of places you need to return with friends.
