Has gone DOWNHILL!. About 5 years ago, my husband and I ate here weekly. But, in the past couple of years, this restaurant has gone downhill fast! Last night was the last time I will ever eat there. The food is horrible! The guacamole was half brown, other food soggy, greasy and tasteless. I agree - Taco Bell/Taco Johns is better. What they charge for disgusting food that upset my stomach is ridiculous. I'm from Colorado and this place doesn't even come close to good authentic southwestern mexican food. So...to the immature idiot who has to cuss to make a point...Adios!

I say, "Pretty Darned Good".. My family, friends and I are all big fans of this restaurant.

The prices are fairly cheap, the portions fairly large, and the food is fresh.

My personal favorite is the chile poblano which is nicely roasted with wonderfully seasoned potatoes inside and delicious queso on top.

I am also a fan of thier lime margaritas on the top.

If you want a quick sit down mexican lunch or dinner, you should check them out.

great mexican. El rodeo is one of the best mexican rest. in town - service & authenticity wise. I've had many mexican meals in mexico and most the food tastes pretty close to it. and by the way i've never had to wait for my food longer than 8-10 minutes. there's been times when we've recieved our food in under 5 minutes. This is coming from a person who eats there about every week....please try the place.....my coworkers and I love it.

I would not call this Mexican Food. This seems to be a Des Moines favorite but if you are used to real Mexican Food dont waste your time or money. I lived in Phoenix for 20 years and I am used to good Mexican food. The Rodeo is NOT good Mexican food. If you don't know what good Mexican food is you will probably like this place. The service is ok but gets overwhelmed at times and slows down. The food was just a half step above Taco Bell (I would have preferred Taco Bell since I would have expected what I got). Like other people here I was referred by many locals to this place as a great Mexican restuarant. I have now just given up on ever finding good Mexican food in Iowa (or Nebraska).

I would NOTrecommend this to anyone who has ever had good Mexican food.

El Rodeo - NO MAS!. Having just moved here from Arizona my wife and I were needing a Mexican food fix. El Rodeo came highly recommended so we tried it out...several times. Unfortunately, each visit left me with the same impression...ugh! First of all, what is with the processed cheese? My wife loves enchiladas and I was amazed that they were served topped with processed cheese! Where's the Queso...and I'm not talking about the cheesy sauce that seems to be served everywhere in this town! Use fresh ingrediants...please! Everything taste like it came out of a can, especially the enchilada sauce! What's with the white sauce? No MAS! We're still searching for good Mexican food...Plaza Mexico in Johnston has been the best so far.

Previous reviews are a bit overrated.. Found this resturaunt to be better than the chains but not as good as preious reviews claimed. My biggest complaint is all the dishes we ordered (I was with my family of 11) were not as flavorful as they should have been. My kids and wife all said the same thing - "just not very tasty". On the pros side - we did get good service, the portions were generous, and the prices very reasonable. Depending on what you are use to - you may really like this place. We will probably go somewhere else.

Quickest Quality Mexican in Des Moines. Being from Phoenix, I can tell a great place to get authentic Mexican food. I'd reccommend this place to anyone who doesn't want to wait all night to get seated and then get their food. Drinks and meals alike are increadibly reasonable. You could easily stay under $20 for two people, especially if you take advantage of the FREE chips and salsa.

skdinger. My husband and I visit the original El Rodeo location at least once a week. The staff is incredibly friendly - it's so nice to be receive a genuine greeting when you walk in. The food is great, inexpensive and always right on. You never have to worry about quality. The margaritas are the best ever and also inexpensive. Forget the big chain restaurants, El Rodeo beats them hands down.

great mexican food!. Whenever we go out for mexican, my husband and I go here. The service is wonderful, the great food is always served hot, and the prices are reasonable. I also recommend the margaritas, although don't have more than one if you're driving!
