Beware! Deceptive Contracts.
My husband and I cancelled our memberships in September of 2010 after the therapist we liked left and we were unable to find another one we liked. While reviewing my year-end bank statement yesterday, I was surprised to see automatic payments were still being withdrawn from our account. I immediately called the WDM location and they confirmed that my husband's and my account had been properly closed 17 months ago. They told me to bring in my bank statements and they would credit our account for this mistake.
When I got to the WDM location, I learned that these automatic withdrawals were due to a 6-month Valentine gift I had purchased for my adult daughter in February of 2010. I was sold 6 massages as a "Valentine Special". At the top of the document, it prominently stated this was a 6 month contract. I made it very clear that I did not want my daughter to be tied into a long-term contract. The sales associate told me this was not a full-fledged membership. Therefore, I thought the auto-withdrawal approval box that I initialed was authorizing 6 monthly withdrawals. Instead, I have now been informed that it meant continuous withdrawals until I officially cancelled the contract.
Admittedly, we should have discovered these withdrawals from our bank account long ago. However, since I purchased the gift and my husband balances our bank account, along with the fact that our adult daughter did not live with us... none of us put it all together, until now.
There is no excuse for a company to continually charge an unsuspecting customer for 17 months when it was apparent we were not utilizing their service. If I had understood the meaning of that clause in this contract, I certainly would have cancelled it at the end of the 6 month period. It appears to me that Massage Heights, or at least this franchise owner, deliberately took advantage of the situation.
Amazing Therapists !!. I became a member at Massage Heights in September. When I first came in I was in so much pain, and couldnt move my head. I have tried Doctors, a Chiropractor, and a Physical Therapist and nothing has helped until Massage Heights... My pain is gone! I have had massages from 3 different therapist there and they have all been amazing. I recommend this business to everyone. The staff is very professional and the ambience is soooo relaxing. I love it :)
ripoff - watch the recurring billing. I bought 12 massages, one year all at once. When I did the owner was there, Nick I think. He pressured several times to get me on recurring billing. I should have known then. I did not sign up for recurring billing. My year was up in January. I noticed a charge for 60.00 bucks on my CC and called. They refused to cancel the recurring billing, I never signed up for, then had the gall to say if I did want to cancel I had to come in and fill out their form. Oh, I went in all right. There are dozens of massage places in West Des Moines, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. BTW pretty sure some of the "good" posts here are from employees.
GOING EVERY WEEK!!!. I LOVE massage heights!!! Everyone there is VERY professional and is my own little retreat from life and what it throws at me. :) I have experienced massages from many of the therapists and have not had one that I didn't like. Everyone treats me very well. It is a warm and welcoming place! I am trying to get in every week! and the heightened program is the best! I will be a very frequent visitor! :D
Small mix up = huge headache!. Talk about the opposite of what a massage is suppose to be!!! After a mistake we ended up at the wrong location and were 4 minutes late to our appointment. Upon arrival we were scolded for being late and after a 10 minute wait escorted back to our couples massage room that was actually just 2 rooms with a tiny adjoining door. Prior to starting they informed us that since we were late they would be cutting 20 minutes from our massage but still charging us full price. We decided we should probably reschedule as we didn't want to pay full price for half the massage. Got up front to reschedule and was informed we also had to pay $40 additional to even be allowed to reschedule. I was obviously upset by that and got a a total "Its not our fault so deal with it" attitude. Definitely not a place we would ever feel comfortable returning to for relaxation so I paid my $40 and canceled my Groupon for the massage. This was my Valentine's Day gift to my wife so the rudeness of the staff managed to not only ruin our potential massage but also the gift. I rode home to a wife in tears from being yelled at by staff. With the # of massage options in town I would think customer service would be a higher priority not to mention the relaxation factor. Needless to say we will not return and I don't recommend you trying it either!
A West Des Moines Gem. I booked a massage at Massage Heights, and am happy to say it was a very good experience. It really helped with the mid back and shoulder pain I had been experiencing. This place is totally worth exploring. Much better experience than other massage therapists I have utilized in Des Moines.
Great massage, great value!.
I went to Massage Heights with a friend of mine and was completely blown away! I had a fantastic massage with hot stones which I have always wanted to try but never have, and my friend had a facial which she really liked, too. They had a holiday special, so it was really affordable, I think it was only $50 for everything. Although it was affordable, you felt like you were in a high end spa...
I highly recommed this place as a classy, relaxing place to go!
RIP OFF!. I recently went to this facility and it was the worst experience I have ever had.... Front desk is very PUSHY about trying to jget you to join as a member. 1st massage may be cheaper, then they want you to sign up for a year. Very unprofessional operation. Ran into two people maybe the owners? were very rude. I would not support this business I went there because they had plastered stuff all over my neighborhood. Talk about desperate and pathetic. Save your money! Trust me!
I am very sorry about your experience at Massage Heights. We are very upscale and friendly business/operators. We have always owned and operated businesses in the Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas areas. If I could understand more in detail of what was unsatisfying about your experience at our business - I will gladly make it right with you. Please give us a call and ask for the manager or owners. Thank you - Have a wonderful day!
